As sellers grew, payroll became harder to manage. The Run Payroll home page loaded years of historical data before rendering, slowing down critical workflows, driving support tickets, and causing some employers to run payroll late — delaying employee paychecks and eroding confidence in the platform.
As lead designer, I drove discovery with sellers to define a north star vision around the three core jobs payroll is hired to do: pay employees on time, stay compliant, and offer competitive benefits. The first milestone reimagined the Run Payroll home experience around three principles. Asynchronous loading let critical workflows render immediately, without historical data blocking time-sensitive tasks. A unified alert system gave employers the visibility to identify and resolve issues before they impacted payroll. And a redesigned information hierarchy answered one question upfront: What's the status of my payroll?
The result gave larger businesses a more reliable foundation and established a scalable framework for the future of Square Payroll.

I have a background in advertising and marketing, and found my way into product design through motion graphics. These days, I still occasionally animate things just for fun.
Outside of work, you'll usually find me traveling, hiking, playing tennis, or somewhere at a music festival. I'm also an avid gamer, and a lot of my inspiration comes from experiences that spark wonder and delight.
Here are a few things I've been into lately.
