I shipped the feature growing businesses asked for most — direct control over which day of the week their team gets paid.
Employers wanted to pay their teams on a specific day of the week. The existing framework was built around pay period dates and direct deposit speed, leaving employers with no direct control over when their team actually got paid. For upmarket sellers and businesses migrating from payroll providers that already supported this, it was a dealbreaker.
I worked with engineering and the product manager to rethink how pay periods were calculated. Employers now choose their desired payday first — the system handles the rest, calculating valid pay period options that guarantee enough processing time. I also used this as an opportunity to revisit the full pay schedule setup experience, clarifying how pay period, direct deposit speed, and payday work together. The result was a more confident setup experience and exponential growth in the variety of pay schedule combinations sellers were creating — a clear signal that this flexibility had been long overdue.
